Debra Lynn Apgar, age 59, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 25, 2019 after a long illness in Downey California. She was surrounded by friends and family in a room full of love at the time of her passing.
Debra was the youngest of three daughters, sisters Kathy and Rhonda, born to James and Margret Ruth (Lamb) Wilbanks.
Debra graduated from Downey High School in 1977. She spent a number of years in the customer service industry, working in many industries including children’s educational materials, environmental services, food services and insurance.
In 1997 Debra was blessed with a daughter, Rylie, and became a terrific mother who showered her daughter with love. In 2002 she married her soul mate, David. In addition to David she gained a wonderful stepson, Michael, and the four of them formed a family.
She was baptized at First Southern Baptist Church of Bellflower and assisted in teaching children’s church classes there on Sunday Mornings for a number of years before her illness.
Debra had a very close relationship with her cousin, Charlotte Price, who cared for Debra as a child and provided comfort, supports, transportation, and companionship during the difficult final years of Debra’s life.
Debra also was very close to her step-sister, Michelle Clark and Michelle’s husband Danny.
Debra’s best friend, her ‘Bestie’, was Lisa Leyvas. The Leyvas family, husband Paul and children Blaze and Hunter, were very close to the Apgar family. Holidays were spent together, vacations, and celebrations were done together over the years.
When Debra first became ill she was determined to see Rylie’s high school graduation in June of 2015. She was so happy when she was able to attend the ceremony. Despite her struggles she continued to be the outstanding wife and mother to her family up until her passing. She was dearly loved.
A Memorial Service for Debra will take place at the Chapel of Memories, 12626 Woods Avenue, Norwalk Ca. 90650 on Monday, March 11 at 2:00 PM.
The Family would like to thank the staff, physicians, nurses, and therapist, at the Kaiser Permanente – Downey Medical Center for the compassionate care during her long illness.
We also would like to thank the staff, technicians and patients at the DaVita Downey Landing facility for their care and support during the nearly five years Debra was having dialysis at their facility.
