Gabriel Valdez

March 24, 1934 — September 18, 2019

On Wednesday September 18th, 2019, Gabriel Valdez, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 85, peacefully in his home.

He was a former military member and retired LAPD officer. He began his military career in the Navy as a signalman. Once he joined the police force, he served in narcotics and on the motors drill team. He retired as a sergeant with labor relations after 27 years on the force. He served from February 1, 1957 to July 7, 1984.  But even with all those accomplishments, his most important role was being the patriarch of his family. He was a very strong and independent man with an amazing sense of humor. He was so proud of his four granddaughters and was an incredible role model to them. His granddaughters made him very proud. He was extremely generous and always put his family before himself.

Besides his family, Gabe also loved staying active and keeping busy. He always made sure his garden was well kept and taken care of. His biggest concern about getting older was that it interfered with his game of golf. He always had a smile on his face and even in his last days, he was still telling jokes. Those are the memories keeping us smiling during this difficult time.

Gabriel is survived by his loving wife Lydia, his children Roxann Valdez Northup and Ron Valdez, 4 granddaughters, 2 great grandchildren, 10 siblings, many nieces and nephews, and 2 sons in law. He was preceded in death by his son Robert Valdez, parents Adolfo and Irene Valdez, and 2 siblings.
