Marvin De Andre Brown II

July 26, 1981 — December 27, 2018

DéAndre was born on July 26, 1981 to Marvin D. Brown and Antonia Chandler in Los Angeles, California. He enjoyed all sports (particularly the L.A. Lakers and Carolina Panthers); however, his greatest love was for baseball. DéAndre played the sport, from the time he could pick up a baseball and bat, for many years with Coach Steven Bradford (family friend and fraternity brother of his Dad) which resulted in the family spending many fun-filled days at Rowley Park in Gardena. DéAndre also had a love for video games, especially Minecraft, which brought him hours of enjoyment when he was not pursuing other interests, such as attending sporting events and watching movies.

DéAndre enrolled at Gardena High School (GHS) in September 1996; while pursuing his educational endeavors he also played baseball during his tenure at GHS from which he graduated in June 1999. After graduation, DéAndre was hired as an assistant coach by GHS Varsity Baseball Coach Leonard Fletcher (Fletch) for whom he had played. Fletch went on to become a trusted friend, confidante and mentor. DéAndre concurrently continued his education at El Camino Community College while coaching Junior Varsity Baseball at GHS.

DéAndre’s professional career began with the United Parcel Service (UPS) in 2005. Through his great work ethic, performance, and collegiality with co-workers DéAndre progressed from part-time employment to a full-time career-path employee during his 14-years as a well-respected member of the UPS Team and Family.

DéAndre was good-natured and treated everyone with respect and dignity. He always had a smile and pleasant greeting for anyone with whom he came into contact; as a result, he had a treasure-trove of close friends and associates. DéAndre envisioned a world in which everyone was treated equally and fairly and in which everyone was given a chance at the best life possible. He also possessed the high standards and morals that are so important in today’s society.

On December 27, 2018 DéAndre was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us far too soon. Those of us he leaves behind will cherish his memories for a lifetime and will always have a void never filled. DéAndre would be pleased and proud of the outpouring of love and the recognition given this day, truly a reflection of the positive impact he made in the lives of those with whom he came in contact. There will never be a way to replace the Golden-Hearted Angel of a man he was but we can honor his memory and add to his legacy by striving each day to be the best person possible, just as he did and will continue to do through his loving spirit. His light will continue to shine as we connect the everlasting love in his heart with the love in ours. Peace and Blessings Sir; you are gone far too soon!

DéAndre will be missed and loved forever by those he leaves behind including his parents, Marvin and Antonia, his brothers Aaron Chandler and Marques Brown, and beloved Grandmother Vivian Brown-Clark. He will also be fondly remembered by his Godparents, Steven and Theresa Turner and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and dear friends. DéAndre is preceded in death by his grandmother, Elizabeth “Liz” Chandler, and grandfather, William “Bill” Clark.
