Vincent Dorame Arteaga

Norwalk

Vincent Dorame Arteaga was born in Dos Cabezas, Arizona, in 1934 to Trinidad and Jose Arteaga. He graduated from John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles and honorably served in the US Army starting in June 1956. Following his military service, Vincent pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics along with a Bilingual Education Credential from California State University, Los Angeles.

Vincent had a profound dedication to youth education, serving for many years as an esteemed educator at Rio Hondo College, as a high school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and at John Glenn High School in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District until his retirement. His commitment extended beyond the classroom as he passionately managed job development programs and local youth centers, making a lasting and significant impact on his community.

After retiring, Vincent's dedication to service continued. He was a devoted member of the Cruz Roja Voluntarios Board, where he and his beloved wife Ruby raised thousands of dollars for the Rosarito Cruz Roja. Together, they also organized fundraisers for the United Society of Baja California and volunteered at orphanages in Baja California. Vincent enjoyed watching sports, camping, traveling, and dancing; he and Ruby were celebrated among family and friends as the best dancers on the dance floor!

Vincent is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruby; his son Vincent Arteaga Jr.; his daughters Mendora Servin, Jane Barchus Arteaga, and Mona Lisa Bontty; and four cherished grandchildren: Alejandro Servin, Benjamin Servin, Melania Bontty, and Matthew Bontty, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Arteaga; his mother, Trinidad Bazaure; his brothers, Marshall, Joe, Alex, and Fernando Arteaga, Henry, and Clyde Bazaure; and his sisters, Clementine Dorame, Jane Arteaga, Josephine Ayala, Charlotte Gonzales, Chona Arteaga, and Tillie Hernandez.
